Frequently Asked Questions About Air Duct & Dryer Vent Cleaning
- Why should I have my air ducts professionally cleaned?
Through the course of a year, your HVAC system moves a massive amount of air through your home. This huge amount of air carries with it a variable amount of particulates, pollutants and debris which slowly build up in your system and increasingly affect the quality of the air in your home. At the very least, most homeowners consider air duct cleaning to be a standard and necessary cleaning task to be done periodically as it removes dirt and unwanted material from the interior of the home. An increasing proportion of homeowners, however, consider air duct cleaning to be of vital importance in preserving and maintaining the respiratory health of all occupants as well as a sanitary living environment. - What exactly does your air duct cleaning service include?
First, we’ll do a brief walk-through with you and explain our process to you as well as answer any general questions you may have. We will map out your air duct system and verify we have full access to all of your supply registers and returns. We’ll provide you with a written quote for services to be performed as well as a video inspection upon request. We’ll clean all supply and return vents as well as hand-wash all vent covers. Finally we will clean or replace your return filters and sanitize your system with a fog disinfectant. - What is your process for removing contaminants from my air duct system?
TopNotch Floor Care utilizes the Rotobrush ™ contact cleaning method, widely considered to be the industry standard in duct cleaning equipment and expertise. After undergoing extensive training conducted at the Rotobrush facility in Dallas, our employees are armed with the knowledge and tools they need to clean your ducts thoroughly, efficiently, and with the utmost care and professionalism.
We will start by removing your register covers and taking them outside to wash them with Simple Green ™ degreaser, and even repaint them for an additional charge. Then we’ll get to work cleaning. The patented Rotobrush system uses a built in vacuum as it sweeps, and various sizes of brushes rotating at 450 RPM to snake its way through your duct system, leaving it free of debris and contaminants. The powerful yet flexible Rotobrush easily cleans all types of air ducts (e.g. flex-ducts, round metal ducts, square metal ducts, and fiberboard) including right angle turns, reducers, and multiple bends found in most types of duct systems.
Finally, with your approval we will treat your duct system with a sanitizing fog. And of course you can always count on us to utilize drop cloths and shoe covers to keep your living spaces and your belongings completely free of dirt and debris. - Will cleaning my air ducts make my HVAC system run more efficiently?
Research by the U.S. EPA has demonstrated that HVAC system cleaning may allow systems to run more efficiently. A clean, well-maintained HVAC system is less likely to break down, has a longer lifespan, and generally operates more efficiently than systems that are neglected and not cleaned routinely. As your air ducts become congested and obstructed, your system may take longer to achieve the temperature set on your thermostat, which means higher heating and cooling bills.
What is a dryer vent and what are the benefits of dryer vent cleaning?
Your dryer vent carries moisture and and lint from your dryer to the outside of your home. Dryer vent cleaning is an important yet simple solution to a few common household problems and dangers. Your dryer is considered an energy guzzler, so having an obstructed vent causes your dryer to work harder and use more energy, which in turns leads to a surprisingly heavy impact on your energy bills.
More importantly, dryer vent fires lead to over 12,000 residential fires, 400 injuries, and 15 deaths annually, with “failure to clean” being the leading contributing factor. In fact, your dryer vent is more likely to cause a fire than your furnace, stove, and chimney combined. Prolonged drying cycles can overhead the lint trapped in the vent, which can ignite inside the dryer cabinet and lead to a fire.
How will you clean my dryer vent?
We use a specialized attachment and smaller-sized hose to agitate and vacuum your dryer vent much the same way we clean air ducts.
About how long does air duct cleaning take?
Home size, level of dirt saturation, vent accessibility, attic access and a number of other factors can all affect the time necessary to complete a whole-house air duct cleaning. As a general rule, we advise our customers to plan for at least two hours for smaller homes and as much as 4-5 hours for larger two-story homes. Doing the job quickly is not our goal. Doing it thoroughly, safely, and professionally is. Our loyal customers know that we never cut corners in anything we do, and we don’t dream of saying goodbye until you are 100% satisfied with a job well-done.
